Can companies get involved?
The whole idea is that these activities are independent of any IT/security company. But this doesn't mean that companies can't help. Most of them have a (bi-)weekly 'nerd day', allowing employees to do the things they want. Why not let them do charity work during those hours. And if you don't have a 'nerd day', maybe now is a good time to start one ;)
